A Positive Future - Rt Hon. John Key Prime Minister

Despite these difficult economic times, I am very optimistic about New Zealand’s future. There are several reasons for this.

We have world-leading advantages in the production of food. We are well positioned on the edge of Asia and have a growing number of free-trade agreements with countries in the region. We are a great place for tourists to come and visit. And we have fabulous businesses which are niche in nature by world standards but have great capacity to grow.

Our challenge in government, in business and in education is to make the most of the opportunities these competitive advantages provide. That’s why I am very pleased to acknowledge and congratulate Charles Bidwill on his support for New Zealand business and for his contribution to this initiative.

By encouraging small companies with growth potential to take the next step in their development, Charles and the University of Auckland Business School are not only helping to grow the promising exporters of today but they are also encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit that is so important for New Zealand’s future. I’d like to thank everyone who has helped to make the University of Auckland Business School Entrepreneurs’ Challenge happen.

Initiatives like this one can raise the sights of our businesses, lift the performance of our economy, and help build a brighter future for all New Zealanders.

Rt Hon. John Key
Prime Minister
